Maja Djordjevic (b. 1990) earned her bachelor and masters degree from the Universiti of Arts in Belgrade, Serbia, where she continues to work and live today. Her paintings depict anonymous women sketched out in an early kind of MacPaint program, where squares of color are so large as to prevent too much detail. These figures are used as symbols of feminine power, pleasure and pain; and while being tiny and barely marked out as a girl, they explode with vitality and even positivity. Djordjevic has had solo shows at The Hole, New York, NY, U10 Art Space and Gallery KM8, Belgrade, Serbia, and Dio Horia, Mykonos, Greece. Recent group shows include Booby Trap at The Hole, Alice in Crisis at Dio Horia, and Contemporaniety & Crisis at the Museum of Contemporary Art Vojvodina, Serbia.
